4 spectacular beach breaks, following an East Africa Safari

12 Apr 2019|Catherine Soares de Melo

A safari, while one of the most invigorating experiences on earth – all the fresh air, wide open spaces and surrounded by an abundance wildlife – can also be a little tiring…in a good way! It’s the sunrise wake-up calls, the daily adrenaline when coming face to face with wild animals (from the safety of your safari vehicle), the endless wining and dining and even the potential of being awoken by an elephant outside your room in the small hours of the morning…The chance to do absolutely nothing on a pristine stretch of sun-soaked beach following all of this adventure, is an experience we cannot recommend enough.

So, what are my options following an east Africa safari or primate trek?

There are a handful of mouth-watering islands and coastal areas for all of the beach lovers out there! Whether you’re a keen diver, a deep-sea fisher, or prefer to remain nose deep in your kindle while sipping from a fresh coconut, these 4 areas offer something for everyone!

Pemba Island

This small paradise forms part of the Zanzibar archipelago, a 20-minute flight from Zanzibar itself. With just a handful of lodges, the pull here is about being far removed, and away from the crowds. The coral reefs are untouched and the beaches, quiet.  It’s a place to catch your breath. Spice farms and clove plantations as well as the abundant Ngezi forest, make this a truly unique island to kick back at for a few days. Ask us about what’s on offer in Pemba.

Zanzibar

The Spice Island, as Zanzibar is fondly referred to, is a true treat for the senses. Lazy palms and soft sands dominate the coastline, and it is a laid-back pace of life that you will find here. Get lost in the narrow alleyways of spicy Stone Town, with a property to fit every travelers wish list, this is the easiest connection to a Kenya or Tanzania safari, and does not disappoint.

Kenyan Coast

The coastline south of Mombasa and Diani Beach are spectacular. We have handpicked a selection of hotels and lodges that are removed from the masses and that deliver an extra special, and personalized retreat type experience, where only the best will do.

Northern Mozambique

Not easy to get to, but once there, you’ve never experienced privacy and exclusivity like it… This is surely one of the most beautiful and romantic places in Africa! There is one property in particular that we absolutely love – Azura Quilelea is small, luxurious, and totally private! A coral based island, guests can snorkel right off the beach with snorkels and flippers. There are no crowds or other travelers in sight, it’s just you and the palm trees on this paradisaical island.
