The fact that she is tall and blonde might hide that Mary was born in Ethiopia. Her parents worked as Flying Doctors in Zambia and Ethiopia during the 60s, and traveled through the Serengeti in a Volkswagen Beetle. So it is no surprise that she is exceptionally safari savvy.
Mary studied criminal law and history, worked for a beer company in Amsterdam for a number of years, and then left the Netherlands to travel. She eventually ended up in Tanzania, and after several months of volunteer work, joined what was then called Green Footprint Adventures in July 2004. She loves going on weekend trips to the bush with her partner Bas and their children Morris and Kiki. Mary is extremely fond of giraffes and elephants, but with her feather-phobia, you won’t catch her anywhere near the local birdlife!!
