Mahale Mountains National Park
One of the most magical and remote places in Tanzania - inaccessible by road, the Mahale Mountains National Park is situated right on the edge of the clear blue waters of Lake Tanganyika.
Mahale is probably one of the most exclusive destinations for viewing some of the planets most fascinating and intelligent creatures: chimpanzees. The once-in-a- lifetime opportunity of witnessing chimps in their natural environment comes at a price, however for many people this incredible adventure is well worth it. In addition, the geography of this beautiful area on the shores of the lake is an experience in itself.
ACCOMMODATION IN MAHALEMahale Camp is a great option if you are trying to keep your already high budget to a minimum. It is a perfectly comfortable camp and offers all the creature comforts you will appreciate after a long day of chimp trekking. There are hot showers, cool drinks, delicious and plentiful food, comfortable beds, solar lights and attentive staff. This camp comes highly recommended.

Greystoke Camp is a small camp set under the canopy of palm trees on the beach of Lake Tanganyika. The structures are built using biodegradable materials, but apart from being ecologically sound as well as one of the best places on earth to see chimpanzees, Greystoke has a reputation for incredible luxury, comfort and style – the food is delicious, the setting is hauntingly beautiful, it’s the type of place that is impossible not to love.
