The Serengeti ecosystem is perhaps one of the most famous places in Africa, and is home to the Great Migration. Not only is it the largest movement of wildlife on earth, it is also one of the planet’s most captivating natural spectacles.
Over a million wildebeest, and half a million zebra and antelope migrate from the Masai Mara in Kenya all the way to the southern Serengeti ecosystem. It is a perilous trek with crocodiles lurking at river crossings, predators such as lions, cheetahs and leopards a constant threat – and yet it takes place every year, a complete cycle of life, birth and death.
The Serengeti and the Great Migration have to be seen to be believed – vast expanses of untouched plains, teeming with Wildebeest as far as the eye can see. Your guide will add extra significance to your trip with in-depth explanations of some of the incredible sights you will witness.
For our active guests, the beautiful and remote Gol Mountains are well worth a visit. Here, your guide will be a member of the local Maasai, offering a unique insight into this wondrous area. Planet Africa Adventures brings you the best of the Serengeti.
ACCOMMODATION IN SERENGETISayari Camp. Located in the un-spoilt northern Serengeti area, Sayari Camp offers superb views of the The Great Migration crossing the Mara River (typically from mid July to early November) – with crocodile and hippo ever-present along with the abundant birdlife of the Serengeti. The whole experience is enhanced by the exclusivity of this remote area.
Non-Migratory inhabitants include big cats, elephant, giraffe, hippo, crocodiles, groups of numerous large antelopes and many other incredible animals.
Sayari Camp’s spacious, elegant tents have panoramic views of the never-ending Serengeti. With delicious food and beautiful swimming pool, this camp immerses guests in the bush without sacrificing style and comfort. One of our favourite places to send guests.

Suyan Camp. From December to March Suyan Camp is based in the southern Loliondo concession of Piyaya as per the migratory patterns of the Serengeti with exceptional game viewing.
Loliondo in the vast, rugged land bordering the Serengeti to the east is home to the Maasai whose communities can be visited, giving guests a fascinating insight into these warrior cattle herders. The private concession area also allows walking, day and night game driving - on and off road - plus the option of experiencing fly camping.
The guest areas and 6 luxury mobile tents are beautifully decorated and offer a safe and comfortable haven after a day adventuring in the bush. Combined with great food and attentive service, this camp offers a fantastic holiday and a great option for the more adventurous who want to get off the beaten track . We highly recommend Suyan camp as a part of any safari holiday.

Dunia camp is nestled in the spectacular Moru Kopjes in the Southern/Central Serengeti, the only area of the Serengeti where the illustrious rhino can be seen, along with cats that use the ancient rock formation to overlook their territories. The finest game viewing areas are within driving distance including the central Serengeti, Southern Serengeti and the western corridor. It's also a great base to take a one in a lifetime hot air balloon ride.
Dunia Camp is made up of 7 superb tents with en-suite bathrooms, large comfortable beds and verandas
that make the most of the views across the vast expanse that is the Serengeti. This exclusive camp combines elements
of style and luxury with a classic bush feel to create a peaceful retreat in the stunning landscape
of the famous Moru Kopjes.

Olakira Camp. The mobile Olakira Camp follows the Great Migration as it makes its way across the Serengeti. From mid December to March, the camp is located in the southern Serengeti when the vast wildebeest herd gives birth – a natural spectacle that very few people will see in their lifetimes.
The camp then relocates to the Nothern Serengeti for June to early December in time to catch the Migration moving north towards the Mara River (typically end July to late October). Aside from the Migration, this area offers excellent game viewing year round along the Mara River and into the cat populated Lobo area.
With no more than eight tents, Olakira Camp offers an authentic, intimate bush experience with spacious, well-equipped bathrooms and large comfortable beds. Food is exceptional, with the smell of freshly baked bread often wafting through the Serengeti air. A great camp which Planet Africa is especially fond of.

Serengeti Kati Kati is a safari style bush camp with a total of 20 tents. The tented camp is situated in the central area of the Serengeti National Park with excellent year round game. The tents are large and comfortable and there is a good team of friendly staff who will make sure you are as comfortable as possible. We think all visitors of Tanzania should sleep under canvas in Tanzania as the experience of hearing the wildlife outside your tent just before you fall asleep is extraordinary… In our opinion this is one of the best priced places to stay if you want to enjoy the experience of a mid range tented camp without the frills, in a very good location.

Flycatcher Camp moves between the southern and northern Serengeti depending on where the Great Migration is at that time of year. This camp achieves a perfect balance between outstanding game viewing and comfort.
The spacious and comfortable tents have an en-suite private bathrooms with flushing toilets and showers. In addition there are electric lights, generated with the use of solar panels. This is a good quality mid-range camp – comfortable without too many frills, providing for a very satisfying trip to the bush. A good choice for an authentic bush experience that won’t break the bank.

Lake Masek Luxury Tented Lodge is set by the shores of Lake Masek in Ndutu. Situated in the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, the lodge is in an excellent position to view the Wildebeest Migration from December to March each year.
The upmarket lodge has 20 luxury ensuite tents. It is run on power supplied by solar electricity and water is harvested during the rainy season and collected for use. All products used are biodegraded to ensure that the environment is kept pristine.
As well as offering excellent game viewing, guests can also enjoy Maasai guided walking safaris and night game drives.

Ndutu Safari Lodge, one of the oldest in Tanzania, is situated in the southern part of the Serengeti ecosystem, just outside the border of the Serengeti National Park. Its location is perfect for witnessing the spectacular Great Migration as it moves through the southern Serengeti.
Set under a canopy of acacias overlooking Lake Ndutu, this mid-range lodge offers a descent service at an agreeable price - comfortable accommodation and tasty home cooking. A good place, however we tend to prefer sending guests to camps within the Serengeti.

Mbalageti Tented Chalet in the Western Corridor of the Serengeti in Northern Tanzania is built on top of Mwamyeni Hill and offers a breathtaking panoramic view of the surrounding plains and the Mbalageti River. This is a good location for the northward movement of the migration herds in April/June.
There is a lovely swimming pool crafted from rocks which sits right on top of the hill – the perfect way to wind down after a day on safari, relaxing in the pool whilst admiring the stunning view.
A good place that offers good value for money – more of a hotel so not a typical establishment for Planet Africa as we usually prefer camps.

EMC (Exclusive Mobile Camp) has three different locations during the year, according to the movements of the seasonal wildlife migrations in the Serengeti National Park. From December to March it will be located in the southern plains, May to August in the central area, and from August to November in the north, right in the midst of the migration.
Two attractive tents host the library/lounge and dining areas. Evenings are spent around a blazing fire, exchanging stories. All rooms are en suite, and a satellite / telephone is available.
