Tarangire ElephantTarangire is a stunning landscape dotted with baobab trees and innumerable termite mounds as well as being home to a large elephant population. The park is spectacular in the dry season (July to October) when many of the migratory wildlife species come to the Tarangire River – a permanent source of  water for wildlife in the area, including wildebeest, zebras, elephants, eland, oryx and not forgetting lion, leopard and cheetah. All accompanied by spectacular birdlife.

In the dry season, Tarangire is second only to the Ngorongoro Crater in concentrations of wildlife, enhanced by a sparse human population! Planet Africa Adventures has an intimate knowledge of this beautiful little park. If you are planning a safari in the dry season, Tarangire is an absolute must-see.

ACCOMODATION IN THE TARANGIRE AREA
Maramboi Tented Camp is a lovely, mid-range camp located outside the park, not too far away from the entrance gate.

Comfortable, tastefully furnished tents are complemented by good food and an incredible view of the Rift Valley escarpment. Maramboi Tented Camp is conveniently located and can easily be reached by road. A good, mid-range place that offers guests value for money.

Oliver’s Camp. Lying to the south, Oliver’s Camp is located in what is no doubt the most spectacular location in the park, close to the animal dense Silale Swamps. It overlooks a flood plain of the Minyonyo Pools, part of the Tarangire River. The camp has an incredible view and is close to a dense concentration of wildlife.

Oliver’s is made up of just eight beautifully appointed, spacious tents where intimacy is ensured. An excellent team of staff will make sure that guests have a truly inspirational experience in this un-spoilt wilderness.

Adding to the uniqueness of this camp, guests have the opportunity to go on walking safaris, night game drives and fly camping - activities that are limited in the national parks.

Definitely our favourite choice in the park – the kind of place where elephants wonder by as you’re taking your open-air morning shower.  Most people who go to Oliver's Camp list it as thier top lodge in all of Tanzania.

Burunge Tented Camp is a cosy camp located on the shores of Lake Burunge, 40km away from the main access gate to Tarangire NP. Planet Africa usually books this camp as an overflow when Maramboi is fully booked. The main thatched lounge offers views over the lake and surrounding woodlands. 20 spacious tents on the property are all en suite with private verandah. The camp offers the opportunity to explore the one-hour special walk that leads to the shores of Lake Burunge, just in front of the Rift Valley, or simply enjoy spectacular views of the surrounds.

Tarangire Treetops is a beautiful lodge situated just outside the park. The well appointed suites are built high up in the branches of big Baobab or Marula trees - they are very comfortable and spacious, with private balconies and well equipped bathrooms.

This luxurious lodge is extremely stylish and is an excellent location for safely watching elephant – guests often wake up in the morning to the sound of an elephant peacefully munching leaves and small branches. Not quite as special in terms of location but a good choice nonetheless.

Tarangire Safari Lodge is a good, no-frills lodge, situated in one of the prime locations in Tarangire Park. Overlooking the Tarangire River, the view from the lodge is definitely one of the best in Africa. Often elephants and other game can be spotted without leaving the veranda. This is a mid range lodge which main strength is its location.
