Laikipia
North-east of the Great Rift Valley and north-west of snowcapped Mount Kenya, the Laikipia plains form a high plateau consisting of a patchwork of wildlife conservancies and private ranches; well known for being one of the country’s greatest conservation success stories. It is fast becoming once of Kenya’s top safari regions, offering plentiful and diverse wildlife. All accommodation is located on private conservancies, so you automatically escape the crowds here.
Home to a wealth of endangered species, including roughly half of Kenya’s population of black rhinos. Also unique to Laikipia are good populations of African wild dogs. You can get directly involved in wildlife conservation, including helping to track rhino or visiting the Ngare Sergoi Rhino Sanctuary (Lewa Conservancy).
