There probably is no other place on earth with such a high concentration of wildlife; some 2000ft below the rim of this imploded volcano (the largest un-flooded complete caldera in the world), lays a natural paradise. It has the highest-ever recorded density of lions and is the last refuge of the black rhino in Tanzania. With the dramatic backdrop of the crater walls, this truly is a photographer’s dream.
The crater is a spectacular place, however it does get quite busy so it is key to go early in the morning for the best possible experience. We usually recommend spending one day in the crater itself and tend to avoid sending our clients to the large hotels and expensive lodges on the crater rim, as there are smaller, more intimate properties just outside the crater gates.
