Our Top 4 Tried-and-Tested Activities to Do In and Around Victoria Falls

As a passionate crew with a tremendous love for Africa, we can proudly claim the title of ‘safari specialists’, especially when we look at our travels across almost every country in Africa. Yes, we often have to pinch ourselves as we take in this continent’s world wonders and UNESCO heritage sites. Still, life would be incredibly ‘vanilla’ if we kept these places to ourselves. So here we are sharing our tried-and-tested and not-to-be-missed adventures at our favorite destinations
– beginning with Victoria Falls.

1. Micro-light or Helicopter Flip Anyone?

Known as Mosi-oa-Tunya to locals, meaning “the smoke that thunders”, the best way to experience the sheer magnitude of this stampeding sheet of water is by air, of course! Our small team can arrange a micro-light or helicopter flip right above the falls, stretching a mighty 1,708 metres wide before dropping 108 metres, creating a mist of water that can sometimes be seen from up to 48 kilometres (29 miles) away! Yes, you read that right – it is particularly true over the rainy season from January to May. Of course, if heights aren’t your thing, we have something firmly rooted on the ground.

2. Rhino Tracking in Mosi-oa-Tunya National Park

You’ve seen the photos, you’ve watched the world’s beloved Sir David Attenborough talk about them. It’s now time to walk alongside these highly endangered majestic beasts in the Mosi-oa-Tunya National Park (Zambia), located just upstream from Vic Falls. Pack your camera and a memory waiting to be filled with every step as you come face-to-face – but not too close – with White and Black Rhinos. Very few have gotten the chance to get this close, yet we’re hoping that this will change in the future, with all conservation levies going towards the protection of Africa’s sacred beasts.

3. A Dip In Devil’s Pool

You know what they say about the devil being in the detail? Well, we’re so glad that someone spotted this incredible pool right on the edge of Victoria Falls all those years ago. While certainly not for the faint-hearted, Devil’s Pool hangs right on the very edge, giving those brave enough a chance to truly appreciate the sheer drop off the side of the falls. To reach it, you’ll have to partake in a rocky walk and swim in the Zambezi River. Once in the pool, the river current pushes you right up to the edge. A rock lip acts as a ‘hand break,’ stopping you from going over the edge, giving you the most incredible views over the raging waters below. This is the ultimate definition of an infinity pool!

4. ‘Cheers’ Along a Zambezi River Cruise

If locking eyes with an elephant coming for an afternoon ‘sip and dip’ along the banks of the Zambezi River floats your boat, then this activity deserves a spot on your itinerary. After all, a safari is never truly complete until you’ve experienced it both on foot, in car, and on boat. Discover the great tussles between hippos and crocs. Take it from us – watching Africa’s wildlife from this vantage point is best served with a chilled G&T, a setting sun and an embrace with your loved one.

Africa is waiting and we’re here to share her beauty. For more information on our bespoke travel itineraries in Zambia and Zimbabwe, reach out to one of our specialists here, and let’s take you to the awe-inspiring Victoria Falls.
